Writing in Singapore

Beyond knowing who the ‘big names’ in the Singapore literary scene are, I’m ashamed to say that I know next to nothing about the writing scene in Singapore.

In fact, as of last week, I did not know that annually, close to almost 2000 people participate in NaNoWriMo in Singapore, or that the participation rate at the Singapore Writers’ Festival (SWF) was as high as it is.

After being spurred on by Vara’s encouraging comment regarding NaNoWriMo and finding out that some members of the soon-to-be-launched Singapore Teacher Writers Network would be presenting at the SWF, I finally signed up for NaNoWriMo and bought a festival pass to the SWF over the weekend.

I’m looking forward to both, and will be trying to blog throughout the month as I learn more about local writing and experience sustained writing within a wider community.

Watch this space! 🙂
